Hanging Raku artwork

My copper based glazes have copper carbonate as the primary colorant. I glaze and bisque a piece in my Raku kiln. I raise the temperature to approximately 1800 degrees. Once heated, I remove the piece from the kiln and place it in a metal trash can filled with combustibles. The flames bring out the copper color. Within seconds the glaze will react with the air and start to change colors from copper to magenta and blues through yellows and greens. I close the can and allow it to cool and then wash off any residual ash. I attach the pieces to an upscales frame. The artwork is complete.

Every Raku fired ceramic piece is a beautiful, unique work of art.

Raku is not food safe and will not hold water.

12 separate Raku fired pieces secured to a window framed mirror.
