Crackle Glaze

White crackle glaze is designed to “crack” during the reduction phase of Raku firing. The piece is thrown and bisque fired and glazed. It is heated to 1800 degrees and put into the reduction can. The glaze cools faster than the clay body, shrinks and cracks. The carbon, from the combustibles enter the cracks giving the piece it’s distinctive coloring. The piece cools and the residual smoke and ash is scrubbed off the glaze The piece is complete.
